5 Habits of Successful People You Need to Adopt Now!

People that have achieved success have many things in common, and there are some definite habits that almost all successful people have. A young person like me and you who wants to retire at the age of 37 should adopt these habits of successful people. Trust me when I tell you that these tricks, no matter how small they appear to you in the beginning, they make all the difference in the world.

Many people define successes in terms of money, but success is all about achieving goals. For some people, this is the acquisition of wealth. However, other people may define their successes in terms of job satisfaction, human relationships, or mental discipline.

What Are These Habits?

The following philosophies and habits of successful people have helped me to achieve my goals. I have found that these five key habits of successful people are indispensable to my own triumphs. That’s why I decided to write this piece, so that I can share them with you.

Wake Up at the Crack of Dawn

It may be cliché, but it is true that “the early bird gets the worm.” If my goal was to find the perfect job, I wouldn’t start sending out resumes at six o’clock in the evening, for example. That would mean that hundreds or perhaps even thousands of other people would beat me to the punch.

The same goes for anything else you want to do. If you start doing it at 12, somebody else has already beaten you to it, trust me.

Waking up early is about more than just mere timing. It’s also important for your health. Studies have shown that routine sleeping hours lead to healthy biorhythms. This means that the body works like a well-oiled machine. Improper sleep leads to health problems, such as:

  • Heart Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Sickness / Improper Immune Function

I can give much more attention to daily planning when I wake up at the crack of dawn. Daily planning may be as simple as eating a good breakfast and considering what to work on. However, my planning sessions can be more complex than that. I sometimes plan my schedule weeks or even months in advance.

Focus on the Relevant

It’s easy to be distracted, and that’s why I focus on relevant things. I was once consumed with irrelevant worries about the past and the future, but worries only distract me from work. I can’t change the past, and the future will only get worse as I worry about it. When I focus on irrelevant things, I do nothing to improve my life. Concentration and relevant effort in the present are vital habits of successful people.

If I’m trading a stock, I don’t spend time worrying about whether the stock will rise, fall, or hold its value. My time is better spent analyzing the math behind my risk to reward ratio. In general, I just do whatever I ought to do. I don’t sit around procrastinating about what I’m doing. I’m my biggest critic, and that is very relevant for my productivity.

A high level of focus on my important daily tasks has improved more than my wealth and happiness. It’s been good for my health. An unnatural focus on irrelevant possibilities and past failures increases my anxiety. Science demonstrates that anxiety leads to all sorts of physical problems. It’s common for people with high anxiety to lose their concentration, muscle coordination, and overall energy.

Learn to Say ‘No’

Learning to say “no” more often is one of the most important habits of successful people. Far too many people like to appease others, but people always want something for nothing. Many people out there are being exploited on a daily basis because they cannot say no.

There have been many times where I went above and beyond the call of duty at work to make my boss happy. I didn’t get a raise. Nobody congratulated me for a job well done. I simply did more work than I should have because I was a nice guy.

I had to learn to put myself first in all situations. When people find it hard to say no, they’re thinking about the feelings of others. They’re thinking about whether another person will like or dislike them. I had to learn that it was good for me to say no to people. Moreover, it didn’t always matter what those people thought of me as a result.

I say no to people all the time now. If I don’t like the price that someone is willing to pay me, I tell them, “No, I won’t sell at that price.” If I don’t like someone’s work, I tell them, “No, I won’t pay for it.” It’s that simple. Get your priorities straight.

Read Every Single Day

Reading is probably the single most important thing that someone can do to improve his or her life. I read more than just the newspaper, though. I read things that educate and stimulate my mind. A lot of people out there are finished learning new things. High school or college was enough for them. However, a constant pursuit of knowledge is one of the most integral habits of successful people.

A person is the sum total of his or her knowledge and experiences. If I stop reading today, I will cease to grow. I will no longer be acquiring the tools that I need to succeed. Still, I like to be constantly growing as a person. Successful people read every single day for intellectual growth.

Television produces negative changes in the brain. This means that people don’t absorb information efficiently. A book, or text-based website, keeps a brain running properly. Text-based learning is far better than TV or video.

Sports, Sports, Sports

A disturbing number of people don’t like sports, but they are an important component of a healthy lifestyle. Individuals tend to agree that regular trips to the gym improve health, and sports are great for a healthy body. I get much more out of playing sports than I do from a mere trip to a workout gym, though.

Sports help me in lots of ways. My body stays fit, and I get to have fun while I’m active. This improves my mood. Sports, like basketball or hockey, force me to interact with other human beings. In turn, this improves my ability to create meaningful relationships. The difficulties inherent in sports force me to concentrate on winning, and I can apply winning strategies in my life.

Any physical activity is great, but playing sports is one of the key habits of successful people for good reason. Basketball, football, team tennis, golf, and many other games continue to improve my life in various ways. I would be a far less successful person without them.


It would be almost impossible for me to advance in my life without the philosophies listed above. I need to wake up early, and I need to focus on important things. I need to say no at the right times, or I will be delayed in my journey. There would be no solutions to my problems without knowledge, and that is why I read daily. Sports are a vital practice for my important relationships.
